Sacramento, CA – The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) California, 700,000 members strong, released the following statement after the SEIU International Union endorsed Kamala Harris for President of the United States. David Huerta, President of SEIU California and SEIU – United Service Workers West, said:
“California’s working people are thrilled to stand with Vice President Kamala Harris, a leader who embodies the California Dream and our vision for the nation’s future: where the children of multi-racial and immigrant families have limitless opportunities. We are ready to make history by sending the nation’s first African-American, Asian-American, woman President to the Oval Office with a worker-powered victory this November.
“For the past three and a half years, SEIU workers have partnered closely with President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris to transform caregiving jobs into good, family-supporting careers, address the child care crisis harming a woman-of-color led workforce and the families who count on quality care, and put the opportunity to join a union within reach of every worker. We are eager to work alongside Vice President Harris to build upon the legacy of the most pro-worker Administration in generations and create even greater opportunities for workers and our families to thrive.
“The choice this November couldn’t be clearer and the stakes couldn’t be higher. The Trump-Vance, extremist, MAGA agenda aims to rip millions of immigrant families apart in mass deportation camps, impose a nationwide ban on reproductive healthcare, and shower billionaires with more wealth while stripping healthcare away from working families and vulnerable people. As our Attorney General, U.S. Senator and our Vice President, California workers know Kamala Harris is best-positioned to hit the ground running with a pro-worker, pro-inclusion, victorious campaign.
“From taking on the big banks that cheated working families out of their homes as California’s Attorney General, to fighting for a humane and just immigration system, Vice President Harris is unshakable and always on our side as workers. Walking a day in the shoes of a California home care worker, Vice President Harris showed us what she’s made of. Now we’re ready to show her – and the nation – working people’s strength at the ballot box.”
