SAN JOSE, Calif. – Behind every unemployment figure, there is a human story. Rep. Mike Honda (D-San Jose) will get to hear some of them at a town hall today.
This month, Honda and other members of Congress are taking their usual August recess break. But there is nothing usual about this August. Working families are struggling as never before, and from coast to coast, legislators are hearing the same cry: “Where are the jobs?”
“Our state’s unemployment just hit 12 percent. Jobs-creation and fixing the broken economy are what we need now,” said Brian O’Neill, a Santa Clara County property appraiser. “We hope hearing from constituents will empower Rep. Honda to go back to Washington and say the people’s mandate is clear: Fix the economy by creating jobs.”
