Monterey County Workers Address Crisis of Priorities
SEIU Local 521 members rally to demand accountability
Salinas, Calif. – As Monterey County’s contract with its 3,000 union workers expires June 30, members of Service Employees International Union Local 521 are staging a rally to call on the Board of Supervisors to hold the Chief Administrative Officer Lew Bauman accountable.
Despite doomsday projections by the CAO, the county expects to end the current year with a surplus and a balanced budget for 2017. What the county is facing is a crisis of priorities. Under the CAO’s leadership, Monterey County has spent millions of dollars in capital projects and management perk but has failed to invest in frontline workers and services that lift up our community.
Members of SEIU 521 will hold a worksite rally to call on the Board of Supervisors to invest in county workers and the communities they serve.
