SAN JOSE – A backlog of late payments to In Home Supportive Care (IHSS) workers is leading to eviction notices and economic hardship for some of our most vulnerable residents – home care workers.
Hundreds of home care workers will urge the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors today to provide the most basic treatment that all workers need: Getting paid on time.
Home care workers are facing a financial crisis. Many workers have not received checks for months, forcing them to borrow money from friends and family, succumb to predatory payday loans at 466% interest, or even sell gold jewelry and dental work.
