FRESNO, Calif. – At a noon press conference on Tuesday, Fresno County workers will give official statements on the county’s failed leadership and publicly call on county officials to reinvest in Fresno County.
The press conference will come just days after county officials fully restored their own high salaries while forcing a 9-percent pay cut on frontline workers.
The county’s shocking decisions have been described as “callousness” and “mind-boggling” by The Fresno Bee, which noted that a 9-percent pay cut for a worker earning $40,000 a year could mean the difference between keeping and losing her home.
“It’s time to restore Fresno County so that we can rebuild,” said Alysia Bonner, SEIU Local 521 Regional Vice President. “The cuts to services have hurt the people of Fresno and we want to get back to serving them with the full support of the board. We have the resources and the time is right. If the board can find the political will to stand up to their CAO, we can make this happen now.”
