Coalitions hold 99% rally and march for a better California
Rich “Tax-Us” group joins the call for fairer taxes
SAN JOSE – On the eve of the legislature adopting a budget that promises horrific cuts, a diverse coalition of 99% supporters will gather on Wednesday in downtown San Jose to call for a better California.
What we face today is a state budget that is massively unbalanced, schools that are severely underfunded and working families who pay a higher tax rate than General Electric.
Joining the call for a better California are: California Partnership, 9to5, Community Health Partnership, Occupy San Jose, Silicon Valley Independent Living Center, South Bay Pride at Work, Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment, Tax-Us, and Service Employees International Union Local 521.
What do the 99% want?
Affordable higher education; wages that don’t leave families near poverty; a sustainable and secure retirement for all workers; and a federal tax plan that is not riddled with Cayman Island loopholes.
Joining the 99% will be John K. Stewart, founder of Tax-Us coalition (http://www.tax-us.info), which describes itself as “a band of citizens working to fairly change tax policy to ensure a balanced budget and stable economy.”
WHEN: 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 13
WHERE: San Jose State University, MLK Library, corner of Fourth and San Fernando
