Protect Momentum for Mental Health Workers

Retain Your Valuable Employees
Now more than ever, in the midst of the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) pandemic, the well-being of our residents depends heavily on the well-being of workers who provide essential care throughout the County of Santa Clara. Devoted to providing mental health services to our residents, workers at Momentum for Mental Health reflect the resilient community they represent.
All workers are essential to the health and safety of our community, and they all do their part in supporting vital mitigation practices to assist in the combatting of the COVID-19 health crisis. Once this public health emergency is contained, and when we attempt to return back to normal, our community will be grappling with years of trauma. Momentum for Mental Health must retain and support its workers in order to meet the mental health needs of our community for years to come.
IMPORTANT UPDATE: SEIU 521 received notice that two maintenance workers will be laid off as of July 1st, 2020. Our staff relies on these two workers for basic maintenance and cleaning of the facilities, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. If management lays off two union workers while keeping subcontracted workers, they are acting in bad faith with blatant union-busting and abuse of temporary staffing/subcontracting contract provisions – which should only be used to manage temporary fluctuations in demands of labor. These members have over 15 years of service each and they deserve to be protected from harmful subcontracting. We demand that management rescind the layoff notices and reinstate these two valuable co-workers!
We, the undersigned, demand the following from Momentum for Mental Health:
- Rescind the layoff notices.
- Stop union-busting and the abuse of temporary staff/subcontractors.
- Treat everyone equally. Everyone providing onsite mental health services and putting themselves and their families at risk should be treated equally.
