Santa Cruz County workers rally Thursday
Workers urge supervisors to put community first, invest in quality services and cutting-edge workforce
SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – Hundreds of Santa Cruz County workers and community leaders will rally in Watsonville and Santa Cruz on Thursday, calling on the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors to put community first and reinvest in quality public services and a cutting-edge workforce.
The economy is recovering and Santa Cruz County is once again gaining economic strength, yet many families are still struggling. We need to invest in services that families rely on.
Workers have made sacrifices to maintain services since 2008, including wage freezes, furloughs, layoffs, and cuts to retirement and medical benefits. After years of cuts many workers are actually earning less now than in 2008. In turn, county services have also been impacted by vast cuts.
Now the county has a chance to turn things around by investing in a cutting-edge workforce and strengthening our core public services.
