Supreme Court decision is a victory for all Americans
Decision means we can move forward on improving healthcare access for all
SEIU Local 521, representing 57,000 nurses, home care workers, eligibility workers and other public and private workers across a 17-county region, released the following statement following the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Affordable Care Act of 2010:
Today’s Supreme Court ruling moves our nation forward by saving lives and promising every single American a better future. It is a resounding victory for working people and for the more than 100 million Americans of all political parties, ages, incomes and occupations who are benefiting from the Affordable Care Act.
“The Supreme Court has done the right thing,” said Matt Nathanson, a public health nurse in Santa Cruz County. “Now that the uncertainty around health care is resolved, we can all get to work on fulfilling the promise of the Affordable Care Act—that every American has good quality, affordable health care.”
Today, the court rejected the cynical approach of corporations and Republican extremists who consistently have put profits and politics ahead of working people and whose cold and bitter vision for America is simply that “we are all on our own.”
“This is the best thing that could have happened for our country,” said Sharon Ingram, a staff nurse at Kern Medical Center in Kern County. “This is a big win for the American people. And I am really, really proud of all the nurses and everyone who helped to make this happen.”
