We just made history! For the first time ever in Kern County, thousands of our county coworkers went on strike! Our action sends a clear message: We are more united than ever, and the Kern County Board of Supervisors has severely underestimated us.The Board thought we would back down. Instead, regardless of the rain and all the illegal threats from management, we stood strong, shoulder to shoulder. We know that when we fight, we fight to win!
And the entire Central Valley took notice. Every major news outlet in the region covered our action. The public sees our resolve and they are backing our calls to Fix Kern Now! Check out the press coverage below:
We all should be incredibly proud to have taken part in this historic action to lift up the needs of our families and the vital services our community relies on. We want to remind you that as you return to work tomorrow, any forms of intimidation or retaliation from management are illegal and should be reported immediately to our union. Contact our SEIU 521 Member Resource Center (MRC): 1-833-734-8521 or email: communications@seiu521.org.
This is just the beginning! Our next steps are crucial. We will win because every day more and more county workers are joining our fight. Here’s how:
Activate your membership. Our strike demonstrated that we are more united than ever, by activating your membership, you show the County that we have strength and power in numbers.
Sign up for Sat. March 8th to help spread our Fix Kern message in our community – this weekend, join with county co-workers who are going door-to-door to spread the truth about the Board’s failure to serve taxpayers. Click here to sign up.

We’ve made history once. Let’s do it again. Together, we will win.
We will continue to provide updates as they become available!
