Extreme anti-worker organizations like the deceptively-named Freedom Foundation, California Policy Center, and others are actively trying to weaken unions like ours across California. These organizations serve as front groups for billionaires like the Koch Brothers, who are determined to preserve the rigged economic system. They know that the key to their success is defunding our unions and silencing our voice.
The Freedom Foundation’s anti-worker agenda includes opposing pay raises for public workers, destroying our retirement security by dismantling our pensions, hurting our families by making us pay more for the health insurance we need, and completely eliminating public sector jobs like ours altogether.
The Freedom Foundation has already opened offices here in California. They are sending their operatives to our homes and worksites to trick us into weakening our ability to win better wages and benefits by dropping our union membership. This is all part of their plan to shrink union membership on the West Coast by 127,000 members in the months after the Janus decision.

When working people, whether white, Black or brown, are united in a union, we have power in numbers. We can raise wages, secure basic needs like health insurance, improve our jobs, make life better for our families, and build stronger communities. Help us stay vigilant against these attacks on our families and our loved ones; if the Freedom Foundation sends their operatives to your home or your workplace, let us know.

Here’s how you can fight back against the Freedom Foundation’s attacks.

1. Stick together with our coworkers in our union. Have you submitted your membership application or renewed it recently? If you haven’t yet recommitted to our union, now is the time! (If you can’t find your employer in the list, contact us.)
2. Calculate the benefits of union membership by checking out this “Union Difference Calculator” then sharing it with your coworkers. After the anti-union Act 10 and so-called “right-to-work” laws were passed in Wisconsin, workers like us lost their rights to stand together and negotiate wages, benefits, and working conditions. Wisconsin shows what can happen when union workers lose their labor rights and their unions. The Union Difference Calculator uses Wisconsin data to measure the difference a strong union contract makes.
