Historic Strike Hits Tulare County

Tulare County government came to a standstill as more than 1,000 county workers waged an unprecedented one-day strike Wednesday, Oct. 8, to say we will accept nothing less than a fair contract and livable wages.

Tulare County supervisors again ignored chronic problems caused by poor employee pay and benefits. They voted to impose the County's last, best and final offer. County employees represented by SEIU Local 521 previously voted to authorize the Bargaining Team to call a strike. The team met with Contract Action Team leaders on Tuesday, Sept. 23 to discuss strike plans.

Tulare workers are sending a clear message to the Board of Supervisors and County leadership: We deserve respect. With the largest turnout in Tulare County Chapter history and in a display of solidarity and strength, a staggering 98% voted to authorize a strike.
