WOOHOO! SEIU Purchases New Fresno Office
After nearly a year and a half of searching, Fresno area members finally have a new Union location to call home. At 5228 E. Pine Avenue in Fresno (Map), the new building boasts nearly 9,000 square feet and much more meeting space than the old office.
Just east of downtown Fresno, the building puts staff much closer to members, is easily accessed from Highway 180 and is minutes from the Fresno-Yosemite Airport.
The building committee was made up of Fresno area members: RoseAnn Dominguez with the Fresno Housing Authority, James Hackett with Fresno County, Gwyn Harshaw with Fresno Unified School District, David Chavez with Fresno County, and Gary Linser, a retiree.
The Union's investment in a new building, Dominguez said, will be well worth the $840,000.
"I am so excited to say, 'Woohoo!' We, the members in the Fresno area, are now the proud owners of a very nice piece of property - a place where we can get together as friends and members to continue to work for the betterment of our union and the services we provide."

Not only is the office more convenient, bigger and more suited to member needs, but Dominguez noted it's situated in a very pretty area.
"There are trees all up and down the street, and there's a beautiful lawn," she said. "It makes you want to take a picnic basket and have lunch there."

Local 521 Fresno Regional Director Tom Abshere is pleased with the location, as well.
"We're going to work on a complete remodel of the meeting rooms since that will be the heart of Union gatherings," Abshere said. "There is room for expansion and we plan to use our nice lawn for Union barbecues and get-togethers."
Once remodeling is complete, a 2,500 square foot meeting room will be available to members, in addition to other smaller meeting areas.
Staff moved into the new office on April 27. All staff phone numbers remain the same.
