Guadalupe Ayon, a Correctional Corporal at Delano Community Correctional Facility in Kern County, collected the most signatures and won first place in a localwide contest.
Ayon, who submitted 679 signatures, won a $250 credit to the SEIU merchandise store and a free trip to Washington D.C. early next year, where she'll submit 1 million total signatures to the president and Congress, urging them to support EFCA.
Ayon collected signatures by talking to parents at school, going door to door and even visiting businesses.
"It took time to talk to people and explain it to them," she said. "A lot of people don't understand what's going on, but if you explain it to them and show how this affects them and their children, who doesn't want that American dream? Who doesn't want that opportunity?"
EFCA will create a fair playing field that allows all workers the freedom to form unions so we can create good jobs, win healthcare for all and provide the services our communities need.

Learn more about the Employee Free Choice Act
Don't we all deserve a Chance at the American Dream? Workers across the country deserve a fair chance to unite with their co-workers for better wages and benefits and a chance to create a better future for their kids.
Too often, they don't have the opportunity because the deck is stacked toward large corporations and their billionaire CEOs over workers.
Tens of thousands of workers in America are fired every year for trying to exercise their freedom to form a union. When some workers are denied a voice on the job it violates the American ideal of fairness and equality. And it prevents them from being able to share in the prosperity they have done so much to create.
There's a bill in Congress that will make sure all workers get a fair shot at achieving the American dream.
The Employee Free Choice Act will:
Create a fair playing field that allows all workers the freedom to form unions. With more workers uniting for a voice on the job, we can build our strength to win higher wages for all workers, healthcare for all, and protect our retirement.
Prevent corporations from illegally intimidating and firing workers who try to form unions.
Give workers the same freedoms to negotiate their contracts that CEOs already have.
With your help, we will present the president and Congress with 1 million signatures urging them to enact the Employee Free Choice Act.
